1. What does it do?
Paw Protector soothes, moisturizes and repels ice and snow for protection against harsh winter conditions. For summer use it moisturizes and protects the pads against the heat of asphalt.
2. How does it do all that?
The wax formulation of DR.MAGGIE® Paw Protector allows it to soften at room temperature in your house. When applied to the pads of the feet and between the toes it allows for an extra coating of protection against the snow, ice and salt. The cold temperature outside thickens the product to help insulate the feet and activates the tacky feature so the animal can grip the ground without slipping on icy patches.
After application, the shea better and jojoba oil are absorbed into the pads of the feet to moisturize. They also help to aid healing for pads that are already chapped, cracked or cut from previous outings.
3. Will it make a mess in my house?
DR.MAGGIE® Paw Protection is designed for outdoor use. We do recommend that it is applied immediately before leaving the house as it is somewhat messy in its softened form. But it is designed to wear off gradually in cold weather over a 30-40 minute walk. Any residual product will be removed when you dry your pet’s feet at the door.
4. You say: “DOG” a lot, what about my cat?
This product is non-toxic for all animals. At Animal Health Labs we do not recommend letting cats roam free where they face many serious hazards. However, DR.MAGGIE® Paw Protector will help an outdoor cat by speeding healing and moisturizing the pads to keep them healthier.

5. A lot of your competitors have tea tree oil in their products, why doesn’t yours?
Tea Tree oil (and other essential oils containing plant phenols) has actually been proven to be toxic to cats, though safe for humans and dogs. At Animal Health Laboratories we pride ourselves on the extensive research that goes into the creation of each DR.MAGGIE® product. As a matter of policy no ingredient that is harmful to cats, dogs, or humans is used in any DR.MAGGIE® product.
6. I already own a pair of boots for my dog, why should I try Paw Protector?
DR.MAGGIE® Paw Protector can be a more convenient, more cost effective alternative to boots. Boots can be difficult to put on, and are easily lost. In addition, dogs sweat through their pads, causing a buildup of bacterial in boots which can cause fungal infections unless boots are washed or replaced regularly.
7. Will the Paw Protector expire or go bad? If I still have some left over at the end of the season should I throw it out?
No, it’s not necessary to replace the product annually, though with regular use a jar should last you through the winter. Besides, DR.MAGGIE® Paw Protector has year round benefits. If you’ve ever walked bare foot on hot cement you’ll know what we mean when we recommend this product for use even in the summer. Your pet’s paws get dry and sore year round and the moisturizing, healing benefits of the shea butter and jojoba oil will help to keep them healthy. The wax barrier won’t last as long on a summer walk because the product will remain soft and be easily wiped off, but the healing, moisturizing agents penetrate skin within a few minutes of wear.
8. And me? If I use my hands to apply this, are there any benefits for my skin?
Yes, you too can benefit from the moisturizers in it. After applying DR.MAGGIE® Paw Protector to your pet’s feet, wipe the remaining product on your own hands then put on your mitts and enjoy your walk. By the time you return from the walk, you will find your hands too are softer and smoother than usual.
